An 8-day Tanzania safari tour is a comprehensive and adventurous journey that takes visitors to some of the most iconic wildlife destinations in the country, including the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park. The tour usually begins with an arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and a transfer to a hotel in Arusha.
Over the next few days, travelers will embark on game drives through different national parks and enjoy the opportunity to witness some of the world’s most magnificent wildlife, including the big five (lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos) as well as a wide variety of other species. The tour will also offer the chance to explore unique landscapes, including the rolling plains of the Serengeti, the stunning views from the Ngorongoro Crater, and the lush forests of Tarangire.
In addition to game drives, other activities may be included in the itinerary, such as hot air balloon rides over the Serengeti and cultural visits to local Maasai villages. The tour will conclude with a transfer back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport for departure.
Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania and transfer to Arusha
- Upon arrival in Tanzania, you will be greeted by your driver-guide and transferred to your hotel in Arusha.
- You will have the rest of the day to settle in and relax after your flight. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to go for a short city tour or explore the local market.
- You will spend the night at a hotel in Arusha.
Day 2-3: Drive to Tarangire National Park
- After breakfast on day 2, you will depart for Tarangire National Park, which is about a 2-3 hour drive away.
- You will spend two full days in Tarangire, going on morning and afternoon game drives to see the park’s abundant wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, and more. Tarangire is known for its large herds of elephants and its striking baobab trees.
- You will stay at a budget-friendly lodge or tented camp inside the park for two nights.
Day 4-5: Drive to Serengeti National Park
- After breakfast on day 4, you will depart for Serengeti National Park, which is about a 5-6 hour drive away.
- You will spend two full days in the Serengeti, going on morning and afternoon game drives to see the park’s incredible wildlife, including the large herds of wildebeests, zebras, and other grazing animals, as well as predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs. The Serengeti is known for its endless plains and its annual wildebeest migration, which is one of the world’s greatest wildlife spectacles.

Day 6-7: Drive to Ngorongoro Crater
- After breakfast on day 6, you will depart for Ngorongoro Crater, which is about a 2-3 hour drive away.
- You will spend one full day on the floor of the crater, going on a game drive to see the crater’s abundant wildlife, including large herds of elephants, buffalos, and other grazing animals, as well as predators such as lions, hyenas, and jackals. The Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s largest intact volcanic calderas.
- You will stay at a budget-friendly lodge or tented camp on the rim of the crater for one night.
Day 8: Drive to Arusha and departure
- After breakfast on day 8, you will depart for Arusha, which is about a 2-3 hour drive away.
- Upon arrival in Arusha, you will be dropped off at Kilimanjaro International Airport or another location of your choice for your flight back home.
